While
exploring the stories of those who I look up to, and reading about
the many troubles they got before they met success, it got me to
think something... they kept having troubles, one after the other
nothing seemed to add up or make sense, everything seemed to look
bad for them, but then suddenly they got a break and those troubles
were no more, those hurting words were no more, those rejections,
mocks, and failures were no more.
I thought about something... each stage of life is like a piece of
paper, and we are all “Pencil made drawings” who start a life on one
side of the paper and we start and end at the other side, but during
the process of getting to the other side a huge “evil” eraser shows
up and starts chasing us, and we start running... running away from
that eraser that is taking everything out from our paper. Some in
the middle of running decide to stop and give up, and when the
eraser comes to them, they vanish; but some others keep running, and
in no time they find out that they reached the other end of the
paper ready to start a new page in their life.
What no one really talks about, is that this huge eraser that seems
to be chasing us, will sooner or later wear out, and that also means
that only the ones who decided to keep moving are the ones who
reached their goal at the end of the page.
This maybe sounds like a childish analogy, of what we live every
day in our lives, sometimes we engage ourselves into endless tasks
which seem “impossible” or “too hard to finish”, sometimes things
don’t go as we expect and we believe there might be a curse on us,
cause everything we do goes wrong, my friends this is “eraser”. As a
student you don’t seem to be able to pass a class, your teachers
don’t get you, you don’t get the scores you wish on your homework or
just don’t understand, this is our “eraser”. As a teacher our
students don’t seem to care about what we are teaching, giving us a
hard time being, irresponsible and sometimes irrespectful, this is
our “eraser”.
Our Eraser can be anything that is giving us a hard time and makes
us feel we should give up and get “erased”. Let me tell you, the
ERASER WILL WEAR OUT, the “trick” is for you to hold on and keep
moving, and in the least expected moment you’ll see you did it!
You’ll see you finally graduated, or got the promotion you wanted,
you’ll see your students following your lead, you’ll see you got to
the end of the page, with a bunch of new experiences that you can
apply in the new page to come, and that the eraser wore out.
Summer is around the corner, and so are finals, and papers, camps
activities and more. Don’t give up, you’ll survive as far as you
keep moving, as far as you decide not to stop, as far as you decide
that you’ll get to the end of the page and that even when the eraser
seems to be so close to “wipe you out”, you will still endure in
this race we call life. |
