Midterms are over, and everyone is just
hoping to have at least 1 week to re-charge their batteries and
continue on their path to finals. For teachers, it’s time to
grade all the papers and put the scores on portal. For staff,
they have to prepare the second round of school activities. At
the end, none of us really rest.
Surfing online I found this phrase, by an unknown author, that
made me laugh and think at the same time and I liked it a lot,
it said: “The best way to predict your future is to create it.”
Seriously, no matter who you are and what is your job, what
department are you studying in, how much money you earn, or how
old are you, we all get to the point of asking “what’s next?”
This is applicable to most of the things you can think of, from
washing the dishes to wondering what to do next in our love
Everyday counts, every action will have a reaction, every move
will take you somewhere, but only you can decide where you wanna
go. Throughout these years I’ve meet so many friends, old people
and young people, guys and girls, who had a dream but they don’t
go towards it because circumstances won’t let them, others
complain cause they are studying or working in a certain field
because their family pushed them to do so, some believe they
won’t be able to progress inside their office because their boss
won’t let them, they all have the same question wondering what
their future will be, and sometimes feeling frustrated they
resign and give up on dreaming.
I know sometimes that as students, parents can be “quite
interesting” when it comes about “doing the best for us”, and
although we all should be thankful for the effort our parents do
everyday to provide us with a future, I can only say that at the
end, we are the ones creating our own destiny.
There were several times in which I was called names by my
classmates and teachers, saying “you are useless!!” or calling
me “笨蛋“（stupid) because I couldn’t get the language as fast as
others. If they would’ve been the “creators of my future” I
would be just a “stupid fat nobody who will get nowhere”. Let me
ask you how many times did you hear other people say “you’ll
never succeed on this. Try something else.” and compliment it by
saying “I'm doing this because I care” We all do in one way or
another, but it only depends on you if you want to see your
dream coming true, it only depends on you to decide to walk in
the direction that will take you to where you wanna be. Scary
isn’t it? To know that we have the total power of our future in
our hands, we must be responsible, we must give our best, but we
must never ever give up on our dreams.
People sometimes don’t give too much importance to dreams,
cause on this earth, we must be “realistic” to have a job, be
stable economically, etc. But those who made the world spin
backwards were those who kept dreaming they could.
It is never too late to change your future, even if you are 112
years old. All you need to do is to give the first step today,
and believe that you can get to where you want to go. Who said a
simple oceanographer can’t be a cinematographer, who said a
waitress can’t be a singer, who said a teacher can’t be a
choreographer, who said a secretary can’t be an artist, who said
a finance student can’t be an astronaut.
Just walk, and don’t let your dreams die. When you get there I
know I’ll be reading about you in the newspapers.
