School... is it really for me?

Once I heard someone say "A country cannot climb higher than the education of it's people", I was only 13 years old, and even when I couldn’t understand the phrase completely, I understood how important education was. I clearly remember my dad always saying, “I can’t give you lots of millions of U.S. dollars in the bank when I die, but I’ll do my best to give you education”.

Sometimes we get so caught up in between papers, homework, presentations and more that we can only wish we gave up, sometimes we can only feel the stress in our daily living that we feel that we are not going anywhere, sometimes family issues make us wish we were working and making money instead of being inside a classroom, sometimes our teachers make us feel we are stupid or not as good as someone else in our classroom. So many issues can push us down that we all just say... “Give me a BREAK! I want to start living!!” My dear friends, I felt so bad sometimes while studying, cause I couldn’t be the best in my class or my family didn’t have the economical possibility to help me ease the learning expenses in university, that a couple of times I said, “Bear, you better give up, University is not for you”, but then I remembered that if I wanted to make a difference for my future family, for my family back home and my country, and it is crucial for me to continue my education, no matter how hard it can be, ( specially while being alone in a country, with no family around to support me, being sick and not knowing the language).

But here is what I found, education is the only way to take you where your dreams are, education is what will open doors for you, education is what will make the difference for you, your family and your country! Sometimes being inside a classroom is not the easiest thing to do, but is totally worth it. I’ve seen lots of my close friends give up on their education for different reasons, I know lots of old people who gave up on their education, and they all thought it was the best decision, but later they found out that was a BIG MISTAKE. I’ve heard so many times the phrase “I wish I graduated cause I can’t get a better job now.” or “I wish I studied when I had the chance.”, and this encourages me everyday to continue studying when I feel the pressure is too much. I’ve seen in my own family how difficult it is when your education level is not high enough, I’ve seen in my own country how hard it is for people to survive without any education, and makes me realize HOW LUCKY I AM TO HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF STUDYING. If you are reading this, is because you are part of a great education institution, if you are reading this, is because you have the opportunity right now of having an education, and no matter how hard it is for you, DON’T GIVE UP, because money comes and goes, but education STAYS FOREVER and OPENS THE DOORS for a better future. If you are studying something (whatever it is ), feel LUCKY and HONORED, cause lots of people wish they had the opportunity you have right now. You may not think it that way now, but wait until you have your own kids, or you want a raise in your job, you’ll find out how important this is.

My dad probably couldn’t give me lots of luxuries, or probably can’t buy me an iPad or iPhone, but sure I appreciate what he was able to give me while he could, he provided education. And I understand how hard it is to study sometimes, but there’s no better feeling than the one you get on your graduation day.
